Carissa has worked in the human services field since 2006 and joined Headway in August, 2016.  As a school-based therapist, she has the unique opportunity to work directly with adolescents in a school and be present with them as they meet with her to discuss the many different kinds of situations that they encounter.  She will help her clients learn the skills that they need to best navigate their lives and gain positive emotional health and wellness.  She specializes in CBT and DBT approaches and also Internal Famliy Systems, and also likes to utilize Narrative therapy with her clients.  "I plan to listen," she says.  "Everyone has a story and the students and their families are the experts on thier life's story.  I hope to work with them so that when they look back, they realize they have experienced more comedy than tragedy, more hope than despair, and ultimately, that they have crafted a life that they can look back on and be proud of."

Carissa has a great number of interests and hobbies outside of work, including walking, dancing, and swimming, reading, writing, and watching movies, and traveling.  She travels fairly often, as she has family in Mexico, but also greatly enjoyed a trip to explore Southeast Asia earlier in 2016.
